Making Plans for New Hampshire
UVLT President Jeanie McIntyre has been appointed by Governor Maggie Hassan to serve on an eleven-person Commission charged with producing a report that identifies “specific natural resource protection priorities requiring further state investment over the next 5 years, a process for reviewing and revising priorities on a periodic basis, and a strategy for collaboration and funding among federal, state, regional, municipal, and nongovernmental partners to achieve the commission’s stated conservation goals.” The initiative is outlined in NH SB 38, passed by the legislature last spring. It follows a 2014 study of issues relative to the current status of land conservation in New Hampshire and the state’s role in encouraging voluntary protection of land in the future. The 2014 study findings are posted here. The new Commission will begin meeting this fall.
