Pumpkin Picking Party at Old Town Farm
Fall is always a busy season for farmers across the Upper Valley, and in Pomfret, VT, Neil and Alice Lamson are no exception.
Each year, the Lamsons grow a beautiful crop of pumpkins in a field they lease from UVLT. But in recent years, harvesting the pumpkins had become a major undertaking — one that could take them and their daughter, with the help of their faithful oxen, more than a week to complete.
When UVLT learned how time-consuming this task had become, we reached out to our amazing volunteers and community members to lend a hand. The result? A cheerful “Pumpkin Picking Party” on a sunny Saturday morning at Old Town Farm! Eight enthusiastic volunteers joined us to help gather the pumpkins. With teamwork, laughter, and a bit of extra muscle from Neil’s oxen, the entire field was cleared in just two hours — a task that once took days.
Neil shared how grateful he and Alice were for the support, noting how meaningful it was to see neighbors come together to help local farmers. To celebrate the day’s success, Alice treated everyone to a delicious homemade pumpkin pie — the perfect way to wrap up a morning of hard work and community spirit.
