The 148-acre Morey Mountain Conservation Area is near two other UVLT-owned properties – Cliff’s Cliff at the Palisades and the Blendina and Harold Sargent Preserve – and is within a larger area identified as a “hot spot” by the VT agency of Natural Resources due to an abundance of rare, endangered, or threatened species. The property includes rare plants and portions of a Hemlock-Sphagnum Acidic Basin Swamp, a natural community that’s rare in the State of Vermont. The eastern portion of the property buffers an active nesting area for peregrine falcons.
The Story of Morey Mountain Conservation Area
The Lake Morey Foundation joined with UVLT to protect this hillside, which forms the eastern scenic backdrop to Lake Morey. In an inspiring grassroots effort, the Foundation raised more than $400,000 to purchase this property and transfer it to UVLT for permanent conservation stewardship.
