Eyes On Ash

September 20 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Visit UVLT’s Old Town Farm in Pomfret, VT where forester and land manager Neil Lamson is looking out for our ash trees. During this walk we will teach participants to identify black and white ash by their leaves and samaras (fruit) and Neil will describe his work to retain and recruit ash trees in response to the recent invasion of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) on the property. We will also discuss how YOU can help find and report lingering ash, which may possess genetic resistance to EAB and could be crucial to future restoration efforts of this important species! This event kicks off  UVLT’s planned educational series about ash trees. Registration is strongly encouraged as it will help us plan parking.

To get to Old Town Farm, navigate to 2395 Wild Apple Rd, Pomfret, VT. Turn right at the UVLT event sign and follow this side road approximately 0.25 miles. Take a left at another UVLT event sign to access the agricultural field and parking area. If driving from South Pomfret, follow Stage Rd north approx. 2 miles, turn right onto Wild Apple Rd and follow Wild Apple Rd for approx. 2.5 mi to the first event sign.

This will be a leisurely walk along an open trail. Please bring water and wear appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes/boots. Feel free to bring a bag lunch to picnic together following the event!
