Grab your snowshoes or backcountry xc skis and join us for a guided adventure to Smith Pond. Along the way, Outdoor Programs Leader Holly Henderson will share insights into how plants and animals survive the cold winter months. We’ll explore topics such as the subnivean (under snow) zone, tree bark and bud identification, and winter wildlife tracking. If conditions allow, the skiers will venture across Smith Pond with our Land Steward Alexander van Engelen to prepare our wood duck nest boxes for spring!
We will meet at the Smith Pond trailhead on Smith Pond Rd, via exit 15 off I-89. Please note: a portion of the ~ 1 mile route to the pond will be an ungroomed, hiking trail so snowshoes or backcountry nordic skis will be necessary for this adventure.
