While the total number of hunters nationwide has steadily declined for several decades, the number of women hunters is actually on the rise. Deer numbers disproportionately out-pace their reduction by hunters in most states, including NH and VT. This event will help us understand why hunting deer is important from an ecological perspective and the vital role women play in the hunting world.
Coming from Norwich, Enfield, and Cornish, four women hunters, including UVLT’s Vice President of Conservation Peg Merrens, will discuss the several reasons they hunt deer each fall. They will be joined by NH Fish and Game and VT Fish and Wildlife hunter education coordinators Lorri Menard and Nicole Meier, respectively, who will describe their state’s special training programs intended for women hunters.
Attendees will get a chance to sample some food made from venison, such as sausage and stews.
