Lunch & Learn
It’s cold and icy. Or it’s raining and muddy. Or maybe the sun is out but you just don’t enjoy being outdoors in the cold. Don’t worry – we have you covered for indoor, environmental based events this winter. UVLT is hosting a series of lunch time lectures on a variety of environmental topics. This monthly lecture series runs from January to April with all lectures on the third Thursday of the month from 12 – 1pm at the Enfield Community Building in the downstairs room. Bring your own lunch!
January 16th: Mysterious Artifact in Smith Pond – Dan Pontbriand, retired Chief Ranger of the National Park Service, will be discussing what we’ve found at the bottom of Smith Pond. (If you missed this one there will be a recording of the lecture coming soon to our youtube page.)

February 20th: Canada Warbler Research at Bear Pond Natural Area in Canaan, NH -Len Reitsma, Professor of Ecology at Plymouth State University, has been researching Canada Warblers at the Bear Pond Natural Area in Canaan, NH for 30 years. Join him for a presentation of his research.

March 19th: Raising Monarchs: Lessons in Caring – What leads us to care for living things and what do we learn from such experiences? Consider the answers to these questions with Dawn Dextraze, Education and Outreach Specialist for the Sullivan County Conservation District, as she shares the lessons she has learned while raising monarch butterflies over the past few years. A slide show of her photos of monarchs will accompany this talk.

April 16th: Using LiDAR to Identify Objects on the Ground – Emily Bryant will take us through the process of using LiDAR technology to identify and map objects on the ground (stone walls, cellar holes, topography, etc) using Smith Pond Shaker Forest as an example.
