2012 Naturalists in the field. The Upper Valley Naturalist Training program is organized and coordinated by the Upper Valley Land Trust  and co-sponsored by Hulbert Outdoor Center. This course meets eight times over four weeks and provides intensive training designed for beginning and intermediate naturalists. Sessions are led by local experts and include topics such as geologic history of the region, wetland and woodland ecosystems, plant communities and plant identification, interpretive techniques, birds and other animal wildlife, and more.

The training begins on Wednesday, April 23rd and consists of four weeks of Wednesday evening classroom sessions and Saturday field sessions. The training is $185 for all four weeks of classes and includes materials. A 20% discount is available for UVLT members, seniors and students. Pre-registration is required and a $25 non-refundable deposit is due upon registration.

The program is designed as a broad yet in-depth overview of ecosystems and wildlife in the Upper Valley region of Vermont and New Hampshire. While the presentation style is intended to be accessible and casual, a great deal of material is covered in short period of time. Participants should be prepared for intensive classroom sessions and active field sessions. While no difficult hiking or terrain is included in the training, field sessions are full-day and involve a lot of trail walking. Participants should wear sturdy footwear and dress appropriately for the weather. The training is $185 for all four weeks and includes materials. There is a 20% discount for members, students and seniors.
