2019 Winter/Spring Wild About Lebanon Calendar
“Lebanon is a thriving small city with a big outdoors. ‘Wild About Lebanon’ puts the spotlight on what makes the City so special.â€-Jeanie McIntyre, UVLT President
It’s here! The 2019 Winter & Spring Wild About Lebanon Calendar has arrived!
The Wild About Lebanon series, sponsored by The Upper Valley Land Trust, The City of Lebanon Conservation Program, and the Lebanon Chamber of Commerce, highlights the city’s great places to get outdoors.
The program’s roots go back 15 years. In 2003, volunteer Nicole Cormen initiated the program of outdoor events around Lebanon, NH. Her goal was to acquaint people with Lebanon’s beautiful and varied conserved public lands. She created Wild About Lebanon as a way to showcase the importance of open space, and make sure all Lebanon residents had the opportunity to visit these properties and learn about the natural world right outside their doors.
Jeanie McIntyre, UVLT’s President said that the partners joined in revitalizing the program “as a tribute to Nicole’s memory and also as an ongoing testament to the accomplishments a single volunteer can make in their community.” As the program has grown through the last year UVLT’s Programs Director, Alison Marchione has added her own goal, “I want to make sure everyone can get outside! It’s important to me to plan a variety of activities in town that reach people of all kinds of mobility abilities. Last year’s program included outdoor events that ranged from children’s nature walks, to gentle hikes for those who are less mobile, to cross country ski events and hikes for the really active. Your ability to get around shouldn’t inhibit your love of spending time outdoors.”
The first five months of Wild About Lebanon are scheduled in the calendar and include a variety of winter and spring events, including skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking, hiking, walking, and biking. When asked which of the events she’s most excited for Marchione answered, “I’m excited for all of them but I have to say I love our kick off event – a ski and snowshoe day at Suellen Balestra’s farm on Stevens Road. We did this event last year as our inaugural Wild About Lebanon event and so many people showed up, it was really wonderful. The City of Lebanon Parks and Rec department groomed the trails for skiing last year and have agreed to do it again and that makes it such a fun and special event.”
The ski event will be held on January 26th from 12 to 3pm at 14 Stevens Road in Lebanon. All of the scheduled Wild About Lebanon events can be found here. Keep your eyes on our website calendar for updates on all upcoming UVLT events.
